Iker Vazquez Arteche

Spain

Artist, researcher, designer, programmer and knowmad, he is above all a creator who works on projects that connect the past and the present through research and compilation, developing processes and devices that combine the analog and the digital and talking about the global from the local.

His works and projects arise from the conception of art as a tool for questioning and experimentation from a social perspective.

In an imaginary map of disciplines, his processes place him on the symbolic lines that represent the limit between them, diluting and expanding their boundaries. He works with the context from a look towards the past, materializing his proposals through practices that use different techniques and fleeing from style.

He is a member of the Not a SoHo collective since its founding in 2017 with which he has developed works, projects and processes in BIAD (Bilbao Art District), Wikitoki and Gau Irekia among others. He is also a member of the platform Artistak-etc since its creation in 2019, whose objectives are to improve the working conditions and relations of the Basque artistic fabric and contribute to the enhancement of the value of work in art and culture. In 2021 he created together with the artist Pablo Martínez Garrido the collective Bidoss, developing digital art proposals from the questioning of contemporary realities.

In recent years he has focused on ephemeral installations in public spaces using different techniques and experimental methodologies: developing augmented reality pieces, creating with front-end programming languages, using photoluminescent paint and water-repellent spray on street murals, changing the usual uses of advertising elements and seeking connections with local agents to develop participatory projects.
