Anna O and The Case of Displaced Memory

Anna O and The Case of Displaced Memory

Victor Arroyo / Canada

Marie-Josèphe Angélique was a black slave in Montreal, Canada, 1734, who was hanged and reduced to ashes. She was found guilty of setting fire to and destroying what is now known as Old Montreal. This documentary uses found footage and subtitles as modes of investigation of the politics of postcolonial memory.
