For the first time in 23 years, the International Image Festival will be held in a digital format. The event will take place between June 15 and 19, 2020, with national and international guests, and multiple conferences, seminars, workshops, exhibitions, and samples. The theme of version 19 will be Participation(s) Others, in which artists, researchers and communities are invited to think about the meanings and ontologies that participation, art and design can take on.
The digital culture meeting will develop a large part of its activities on an innovative XR web platform, provided by the Mozilla Technology Company, which was designed and programmed for the event by a team of engineers and designers from Manizales, Colombia. This platform will allow users to explore various spaces and activities in the first person through an avatar (virtual identity). The Festival is the first academic and cultural event to be held in this format.
This year, the Image Festival integrates an event of international importance: the PDC-2020 Participatory Design Conference, which invites researchers and professionals to work on participatory design around topics such as Human-Computer Interaction, Collaborative Learning and Studies. Science and Technology, among others. This event will be held for the first time in a South American country.
Likewise, the Festival will host another 3 exhibitions and meetings. The Ministry of Culture will Manizales Meetings, a dialogue strategy with the agents of the cinematographic and audiovisual ecosystem of Colombia and Latin America, which will host the events Regional Talents and Stories, & New Media and Interactive Content, as well as an academic agenda. The Labs Meeting will also take place, organized by the cultural area of the Banco de la República and the Parque Explora in Medellín, and the Academic Conference on Animation, by the Jorge Tadeo Lozano University in Bogotá.
Another new aspect of this version is related to the exhibition, starting June 15, of the 12 films in the category Film (and) Digital on the digital platform, of a public nature and free access, latin retina.
Finally, in this edition the Festival and Colombian brand, a joint effort between the National Government and the Private Sector to promote and communicate the qualities that the country has, come together to make visible, through the arts, humanities and technologies, the advances, talent and national potential.
The use of an innovative digital platform and the transmission through networks and virtual channels will guarantee the possibilities so that the International Image Festival can be enjoyed from anywhere in the world.
