"Economic Reactivation of Mypes through the Integration and Development of New Personal Protection Products in Times of Pandemic."

A plan was proposed to reduce the supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) for informal vendors at risk of COVID-19, due to the lack of biosafety protocols for use and production.

Through a design-based process: 1. A PPF facial protection screen was developed and registered with the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce as an industrial design. 2. Biosafety protocols were designed through visual scenarios based on the analysis of the activities of the vendors. Biosafety and quality protocols were proposed for reactivating Mypes; seven were trained and three Mypes were chosen for the production of 200 PPE kits.

4. A campaign was designed to disseminate biosafety protocols. 5. 200 KEPP were donated to the NGO El País Primero, who delivered them to the beneficiaries and trained the vendors in the protocols. 6. A spin-off of this initiative was promoted, with the support of Mentor UNAL. It is concluded that: I. The collaboration made it possible to articulate knowledge around a common objective. II. Visual thinking made it possible to explain abstract information in a visual way that was easy to understand. III. It is feasible to reactivate Mypes with design strategies for the development of new products.
