Monica Bravo & Andrea Serna / Colombia

(Lucila, Andrea's mother is schizophrenic. This makes Andrea, who is pregnant, wonder if she is crazy and if her son could be. The answers she finds are not reliable because there is always fear: Is Lucila the crazy one or is she? And if madness is not rather a contemporary illness of the spirit that, in an invisible and silent way, affects us all to different degrees although we tend to ignore it consciously or unconsciously?
Lucila is a retired bacteriologist, lonely and dedicated to Christian worship where she is looking for a meaning for her life. Andrea is a writer, married and expecting a baby in which she begins to discover another meaning for her life. Lucilla is Andrea's mother.
In 2004, Lucila was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, but Andrea suspects that her mother has suffered from this before and that perhaps this disease reveals something beyond a simple mental condition.

    engi

    Julian Scordato / Italy

Engi is an audiovisual work based on a sonification of stellar data related to the northern polar constellations. The sound parameters are graphically represented and defined by certain observational data, as well as the physical characteristics of the stars: the duration of the sound is proportional to the distance from Earth, the amplitude is calculated considering the apparent magnitude, while the main frequency changes according to the spectral class. A polytemporal sequencer is used to activate the stars with a combinatorial system that produces virtually perpetual change. Starting from these simple elements for sound generation, this work assumes a certain complexity through the interaction between electronic sounds in a feedback network capable of processing them both diachronically and synchronously, thanks to a series of interconnected processing units. Therefore, the sound elements no longer exist only as intrinsic and independent entities; instead, they are strongly characterized by global processes that transform them as part of the network.

Creation and Organization of Events 1.3

    Ricardo Hernandez Forero / Colombia

"Creation and organization of events" consists of a video sequence that presents an absurd assumption between an animation sequence (which intermingles everyday situations of the lives of ordinary people, with images of advertisements made in the city they inhabit) and a narration that does not correspond, the audio (partly supported by specific sounds resulting from the recordings) is accompanied by an alleged voiceover narration, the result of fragments extracted from news broadcast on Mexican television, which, when distorted, pretend to be narrating the story that is being told. through subtitles. The video raises the superimposition of different information channels such as audio, image, flyers that appear throughout the sequence, as well as the life of the character. This overlapping of information channels is proposed with the intention of offering different alternatives in the reading of the life developed by a character affected by the advertising and information to which he is subjected daily, leading him to an absurd development of his daily life.

    The Archetype Project

    Marko Schiefelbein / Germany

The Archetype Project reimagines a situation from a “Marlboro Maybe” billboard that was part of a campaign that specifically targets young people from the so-called Generation Y and Z. It portrays a protagonist who is unable to enter the stage due to stage fright . The second character, whose role is loosely based on the Marlboro Cowboy, uses the spotlight to take into account the shortcomings of the “Maybe Generation” and their civility. In his continuous, analytical monologue, he manages to express himself by partially using phrases from Marlboro advertisements, as well as phrases from psychoanalytic portraits of the Marlboro Cowboy that were transferred into spoken text. The paper examines how the advertising industry generates consumer desires through the continuous reproduction of inferiority complexes. It shows how these complexes that are programmed in advertisements from the 60s/70s are imprinted on the (self) perception of the following generations (here Generation Y).

    The Builder of Choice

    Ricardo Hernandez Forero / Colombia

El constructor de elección, presents through a video, an analysis of the Colombian television product, specifically news, as visual-sound communication, focusing on the issue of government elections in different cities of Colombia. In the present video sequence, the image is posed on the border between figuration and abstraction. The video fragments that make up this sequence are part of a news archive broadcast by Colombian television channels. The video proposes a variation and reuse of news material with the intention of offering an alternative in a new way of reading. The intention of the piece The builder of choice starts from the action of approaching something until you see what it is. The piece questions certain limits of the news discourse through the suppression of common sound, and fictionalizing the news scene through the language of silent cinema, which at the time operated in this way due to purely technical impediments, not precisely by choice.

    another space

Cecilia Rosso & Gustavo Valerga / Argentina

In a forest of manzanillos (endemic species of Galapagos) inhabited by "animals" spectral scenes are superimposed, they seem timeless or vestigial, perhaps memories of a dream time. The gazes of the animals in the images evoke a certain tension and mystery, highlighting lights and shadows that can be sensed on this side of the screen, which is no longer a screen but a forest. A disturbing movement is veiled to us, as if only those animals could see and hear it, and they will indicate it to us in their looks and sounds.
