Yovanny Betancur-Santa
D. in music from the University of Montreal, specializing in contemporary music under the direction of Canadian flutist Lise Daoust. Recognized for his talent and discipline, he has been awarded scholarships of excellence throughout his training by the Faculty of Music and the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies of the University of Montreal.
Awarded for the best performance at the Stockhausen Academy Festival (Kurten, Germany, 2011). He began his musical studies in the Music Band of the municipality of Agudas Caldas. Maestro Betancur has a degree in Music from the University of Caldas where he trained as a flutist with Professor Gilberto Osorio.
He completed Master's and Doctorate studies in Music at the University of Montreal – Canada. He studied chamber music with Jean Eude Veillancourt, baroque music with the French Jean Pierre Pinet and contemporary music with Lorraine Veillancourt and Cristian Gort. Yovanny. Maestro Betancur is regularly invited to play in important venues in Colombia, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Argentina, Canada, Germany, Spain and France thanks to his high musical and artistic level and his consolidation as a soloist and chamber musician.
Currently, he is a professor of the flute department, leader of the research group "Grupo de Investigación Observatory of transdisciplinary phenomena in music, Director of the Department of Music and director of the Contemporary Music Ensemble of the University of Caldas – Colombia. He is Peer Evaluator of Colciencias and Academic Peer of the CNA of the Ministry of National Education. Since 2016 he has been the Artistic Director of the CiMa International Music Festival. Likewise, since 2018 he has been a flutist of one of the most important Colombian Music ensembles – Ensamble Cruzao.
