Valentina Garces Medina
Colombia
Her plastic work is formalized in large format installations and sound experiences. She is currently a student in her last semester of the Plastic Arts Program at the Universidad del Cauca. Her installations seek the resignification of women from the domestic chores and gender roles, creating fabrics and embroidery with synthetic and natural fibers, always believing that it is a language and an inexhaustible source of expression of women.
Her interest in sound comes from her family memories and a nostalgic encounter of her personal experience with hearing and the perception of resonances from the outside. She reflects through sound different auditory diseases and silence that reincarnate in an abstract materialization of memory and a reaffirmation of it. In the sound pieces, sound also becomes a way of constructing an unfinished self.
As an emerging artist she has exhibited in the exhibition "Memoria Latente", organized by the Casa Azul project in the city of Popayán (December 2019). Co-founded and curated the Virtual Museum "A La Rivera" in 2019. She participated in the collective Exhibition, organized by the Articulación Feminista de Popayán "LILITH: El cuerpo y lo íntimo, porque "lo personal es político" in the framework of the International Women's Day in 2020 and in this same year, she exhibited in the Virtual Exhibition "La creatividad universitaria en tiempos de pandemia" a collective curatorship in the Multidisciplinary Laboratory CREALAB of the Universidad de Antioquía.
