Unravelling. Workshop on Deep Listening to Migrations

Unravelling. Workshop on Deep Listening to Migrations

Ximena Alarcón

Colombia-Reino Unido

This workshop invites Colombian women and migrant women living in Bogotá to immerse themselves together in the migratory journeys of nine Colombian women in the installation Unravelling/Desenredando and explore individual and collective resonances with these voices.

Unraveling is a bilingual surround sound installation (Spanish and English) featuring the voices of nine Colombian women from diverse backgrounds, listening and resonating with each other's stories of their migratory journeys to Europe. Improvising in trios, they weave a multi-layered sound memory of intense and intimate listening, as they express their experiences of how migration is heard through their bodies: their social spaces of interaction, the memory of the Colombian conflict and the challenges faced in the countries where they now live.

Unravelling is mainly in Spanish, other languages are also heard as traces of their migratory journeys. The workshop invites you to immerse yourself in the shared electroacoustic space created by their voices and interactions, to find resonances in the overlaps and synchronicities, beyond the understanding of the words, and to connect with the feelings they transmit.
