How can the regime of works of art go beyond our sensory limitations to convey the reality of our interspecies entanglements? Not only are we "entangled" with other living things, but we are intimately dependent on mutually prosperous and diverse forms of life and ecosystems. However, our philosophies are inadequate for this condition. Through the work of artists with biological knowledge, I show that the philosophy of individualism must give way to the lessons of autopoiesis (Varela and Maturana) and interdependence, a new ontology that I call symbiotic, symbiosis as what it is.
