Rihards Vitols

Latvia

His work revolves around relationships with nature, environment and technology. He is driven by the desire to design speculative devices for different environments and to enjoy the unknown results and the interaction with them. He understands his role as a mediator between the environment and his work and finds it important to observe this interaction.

Using scientific methodology he visualizes the results in objects, prints and video formats that are represented as event artifacts.

In 2015 he graduated with a master's degree in New Media Art at the University of Liepaja (LV), part of these studies he did at the Bauhaus-University Wiemar (DE). Between 2015-2017 he was studying at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM) where he graduated with a master's degree.

Currently, he is a doctoral student in DXARTS at the University of Washington. He has participated in various exhibitions: 2018-1019 Latvian National Museum of Art “UN/Green”, The Arsenals Exhibition Hall of the Latvian National Museum of Art “The Future State”; Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Center “100 in Latvian art”; 2019 Austria MAK-Museum of Applied Arts, Vienna; Belgium 2015 Maison du Design “Transformative Ecologies”; France 2018 MINATEC "Experiment"; Italy 2014 co-author of the Latvian exhibition hall at the «Venice Architecture Biennale»; Netherlands 2017 «Dutch Design Week».
