Can a being be reduced to its functional identity? Forced to fill out a border transit form to enter a given country, a female-like humanoid robot wonders what she will do. What are her ambitions, possibilities, probabilities, dreams? Occupation reflects on the multiplicity of robot/cyborg roles in culture, taking into account what we already know about the social roles and occupations of women and immigrants.
The script for Occupation draws from the existing online knowledge network: its occupations (with a few exceptions!) come from the Australian Department of Immigration website. Interestingly, this list seems to fly in the face of occupational stereotypes by its seemingly random and unintentionally comical inclusion of every type and level of job, literally from A to Z.
