Nicolas Gomez

Nicholas Gomez

Colombia

He works as an artist, curator and art historian. Through exploration with different media —mainly painting and sculpture— he resorts to visual codes for the representation of the sensory and perceptual experience of space. He works with objects and images that reveal the tensions between the artificial and the natural, and the sensory experience in relation to the categorization and measurement systems of science and language. Both in his artistic work and in his research work, he has delved into the references to the rural and urban landscape in modern and contemporary art, as well as the development and validity of abstract art.

Graduated from the Art program of the Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá, 2008) and the Master of Research in Art History from Goldsmiths University (London, 2010). Individually, he has exhibited his work at Proartes (Cali, 2016), Lokkus Galería (Medellín, 2016), Maca (Bogotá, 2016), Salón Comunal (Bogotá, 2016), the Pereira Art Museum (2015), the Nueveochenta Gallery (Bogotá, 2014), Doce Cero Cero Gallery (Bogotá, 2013), Valenzuela Klenner Gallery (Bogotá, 2013); Santa Fe Gallery (Bogotá, 2012) and Project Room of the Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá, 2007).

He has taught at the Universidad de los Andes (Bogotá), the Universidad de la Sabana (Bogotá) and the Universidad del Tolima (Ibagué). He regularly publishes historical and critical essays and articles on modern and contemporary Colombian art and has worked on curatorial projects for various institutions such as the Museo Nacional, Museo La Tertulia and Banco de la República.
