Masaki Fujihata was born in Tokyo in 1956. He is a media artist and professor at the Tokyo University of the Arts. Fujihata got his start in the 1980s working in the field of computer graphics and animation. Subsequently, along with the dramatic developments achieved in digital technologies, he began to pursue his possibilities in artistic expression, boldly moving into uncharted territory in the art world.
Imbued with the unique special features of new technologies in interactive art, virtual reality and networking, his works raised a variety of issues that had never been raised in previous media of expression, and in the process Fujihata gave a new life to art In all their efforts, their stance, to see through to the essence of the core, always remains constant, however, as they seriously examine the fundamental questions they have to ask, for example, with human perception and consciousness, and why Human beings communicate.
The works and projects that stem from his unique philosophy and playful ideas are highly acclaimed both in Japan and abroad. He received a GoldenNIKA award from the Ars Electronica Festival in 1996 and received a Ministry of Education Award at the Art Awards in 2010.
