“Maricas”

“Maricas”

Carlos Alberto Molano Monsalve / Alejandra Molina López (Colombia)

Maricas: Subienda de Muñecas Negras en el Atrato, is a collective effort to narrate and make visible from the performing and audiovisual arts the experience of transgender women, lesbians and gay men from Riosucio, Chocó, who are traversed by the political and economic violence suffered by the territory, added to the structural racism that narrows their possibilities to assert themselves as dissident people and, in addition, on which all gender-based violence falls, the same that they face with pride through multiple strategies to remain in the territory, resisting with their bodies and their diverse gender identities.

This piece, presented as a Video-Art, shows the experiences of resistance of four characters who narrate their childhood memories, dreams, and daily life, in an environment that qualifies them as Maricas, the same word that they have redefined in their empowerment processes, weaving networks of support, solidarity and love.
