Gaston Rios
Argentina
He was born in Argentina in a poor neighborhood in the Buenos Aires suburbs. His parents were lower-middle-class workers, so there was no room for art in his house. Even so, he managed to read, draw, play the guitar... Art was a way out, a ground wire for a difficult life, always on the edge.
I am self-taught, I learned by watching over and over again the books by Cartier-Bresson, Doisneau, Alvarez Bravo, Brassai and a long etcetera, making mistakes over and over again, searching, always searching.
My area is the street, it always was. It is my perfect setting: the lights, the colors, the people, the neighborhoods, the diversity, the changes, the social inequalities...
Since 2004 I have worked as a professional photographer in different contexts: events, corporate portraiture, journalistic photographer, professional film, theater, fashion and advertising books. At the same time, I continued with my street photography research that I disseminated through social networks, until in 2020 I decided to start exhibiting my artistic work in physical spaces, holding several exhibitions to date.
