From the historical, graphic and patrimonial perspective, this research was developed, the first one around the collection of old books guarded by the order of preachers, which is located in the private library of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, in Tunja. It describes and characterizes a sample of approximately sixty copies that were produced between the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, a period of manuscript production in Colombia, and the beginning of handmade printing in some European countries. This work has a descriptive approach, which allows to know the book as an object and its specific characteristics, it is included in what is known as cultural history.
Different instruments were used to collect information related to material and design elements of the book, such as: typefaces, composition, sizes, formats, colors, supports, types of binding, printer's marks, typographical marks, reader's traces, signatures and engravings, as well as the author, title, subject matter and imprint, among other elements. Based on the analysis of the results of the research, a virtual and itinerant exhibition is being developed that allows its dissemination through a transmedia language.
