Entanglements/Garden of ________________ (2023)
This work evokes a speculative narrative about the intertwining of people, plants, and places. It is an intervention in everyday spaces of green and concrete at walking speed. The augmented reality web app is an easy-to-use "drawing tool" that activates a symbiotic imagery by planting hybrid gardens that combine elements of the physical environment and virtual plants. We imagine the ideas of symbiosis and interdependence between plants and their environments as stimuli for multiple stories and narratives about wanted and unwanted future natures. In this context, Enredos does not promote a return to a romantic notion of nature in pre-industrialized times, but instead encourages playful and even subversive approaches to possible future symbiosis between plants and the specific built environment of the exhibition site. As it relates to a real place, we hope that virtual plant growth captures the public's imagination and inspires reflection on topics such as: highly constructed ideas of nature, power, and political ideologies; rudimentary sites of disturbance, regeneration and succession or highly urbanized settings with little visible plant growth.(171)
