Ezio Manzini, a leading thinker on design for sustainability, founded DESIS, an international design network for social innovation and sustainability (http://www.desis-network.org). He is an Honorary Professor at the Politecnico di Milano, a Professor at the University of the Arts London, and is currently a Visiting Professor at Tongji University, Shanghai, and Jiangnan University, Wuxi.
For more than two decades he has been working in the field of design for sustainability. More recently, his interests have focused on social innovation, considered one of the main drivers of sustainable change. In this perspective DESIS started: an international network of design schools specifically active in the field of design for social innovation and sustainability (http://www.desis-network.org).
He is currently Professor of Design for Social Innovation at the University of the Arts London (London), Honorary Professor at Politecnico di Milano, and Visiting Professor at Tongji University (Shanghai) and Jiangnan University (Wuxi).
In addition to his continuous involvement in design for a sustainable scenario, he has explored and promoted design potentialities in different fields, such as: Material Design, in the 1980s; Strategic Design, in the 90s (begins a Master in Strategic Design); Design of services, in the last ten years (Start specific courses of Design of Services).
His most recent book is “Design, When Everybody Designs. An Introduction to Design for Social Innovation”, MIT Press 2015.
