Claudia Hart

Tuesday, May 25th 15:00 pm - 15:40 pm

United States

Claudia emerged as part of a generation of mid-career artists in the 1990s examining issues of identity and representation. Since the late 1990s, when she began working with 3D animation, Claudia has embraced these same concepts, but now focuses on the impact of simulation and computer technologies. She was an early adopter of virtual imagery, using 3D animation to make installations and media projections, and later, when invented, other forms of virtual reality, augmented reality and objects produced by computer-controlled production machines. At the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) where she teaches, she developed a pedagogical program based on her practice - Experimental 3D - the first dedicated exclusively to teaching simulation technologies in an art school context.

Claudia Hart's works are widely exhibited and collected by galleries and museums, including the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, and the Metropolitan Museum. Her work has been exhibited at the New Museum, produced at the Eyebeam Center for Art + Technology, where she was an honorary fellow in 2013-14, at Pioneer Works, NY, where she was a technology resident in 2018, and at the Center for New Music and Audio Technology, UC Berkeley, where she has collaborated with its director, composer Edmund Campion, and has been a resident for the past 5 years. She is part of the Hyphen Hub team with whom she has developed several performative projects including three performances recently at Mozilla Hubs.
