Carlos Smith

Audiovisual filmmaker and producer, founder of the companies SMITH & SMITH and HIERROANIMACIÓN. He has been professionally dedicated to animation since 1993. He has alternated developing content for television, cinema and other platforms with independent production.
He has extensive experience in teaching. He has been a professor at the National University, the Javeriana University, the Universidad de los Andes, the Universidad de Caldas and for eight years he has served as professor and academic coordinator of the Master's Degree in Animation at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. He is currently the academic director of the School of Digital Animation at the Veritas University in Costa Rica.
He has multiple recognitions and awards at festivals such as Annecy, Hiroshima, Anima Mundi, Japan prize, Prix Jeunesse, Oberhausen, INPUT among others. His series “Cuentos de Viejos” won the award for best transmedia project in the call for projects at MIFA, Annecy 2011, was in the official selection of Annecy in the category of best television series and won two India Catalina awards. Award that also obtained his series "Las Niñas de la Guerra" in 2016 which was also selected in Annecy in the same category. His project "Mostros Afechantes" was highlighted by Variety, Animation Magazine and TBI Visión among the guests at the Cartoon Forum in Toulouse in 2014. In 2018 he directed "Augment your life" for Ubisoft, one of the 10 short films of the "Rabbids Short" project Stories”. His first feature film as a producer “La Otra Forma” premiered at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival and was the winner of Chilemonos 2022.
