Carlos Jiménez Moreno

Architect (Universidad del Valle, Cali, 1972), Master in Theory and History of Art and Architecture (Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Bogotá, 1997). He has been Dean of the Faculty of Integrated Arts at the Universidad del Valle de Cali and professor of aesthetics and history of art and architecture at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogotá, at the Universidad del Valle de Cali and at the Universidad Europea de Madrid, where he retired in 2014.
He is currently director of the Art and Science Symposium at the National Cancer Research Center in Madrid and secretary of the board of directors of the Institute of Contemporary Art of Spain. He is the author of the books: "From Architectural Space to Architecture as Merchandise" (1973), written in collaboration with Hugo Garcia, "Strangers in Paradise". Ojeadas al arte de los 80 (1993), "The Faces of Medusa".
Studies on Photographic Rhetoric (1998) and The Endless Scene. Art in the era of its Big bang (2004). Darío Corbeira at the crossroads (2021), written in collaboration with the artist, The saint, the militant and the artist (2022) and Epiphanies. Mystics and Prophets in Contemporary Art (2024). And the poetry collections Journey of the Eye (1989) and Prose of the Gallinazal (unpublished).
In his research work he has dealt with issues such as diffuse aestheticization, the theatricalization of politics, the deafness of modern architecture, modernity as an anachronizing machine, photography as ruin and monument, the biennialization of contemporary art, and iconoclasm and scopophilia in postmodern culture. He is currently researching Afro-American arts and cultures. He has curated exhibitions such as Oscar Muñoz. "Documents of Amnesia" (Museo Español e Iberoamericano de Arte Contemporáneo, Badajoz, Spain, 2008) "A Person" by Santiago Sierra (Centro Civico Comunale, Trento, Italy, 2005) and "A Survey" by Antoni Muntadas (Casa de la moneda, Biblioteca Luis Ángel Arango, Bogotá, 1999) and co-curator of the exhibition "Eating or not eating". Art and food (Artium, Salamanca, Spain, 2003).
He has lectured and participated in seminars on contemporary art and artists in Barcelona, Bogota, Brussels, Cali, Mexico City, Havana, Madrid and Rome. He has worked as an art critic in the newspapers El Mundo, El Sol and El País of Madrid, in the magazines Art Nexus and Lápiz and published articles and essays on contemporary art and culture in the magazines Art Nexus, Artishock, Arquitectura viva, artepuntoes, Brumaria, Campo de relámpagos, El Estado Mental, Exit, Humboldt and Revista de Occidente. Since 2010 he writes the blog dedicated to contemporary art and culture.
