        idolization

        Santiago Camargo / Colombia

“Idolación” is a video performance in which the existential conditions and conflicts of contemporary human beings are revealed. In it, the constant ambivalences and apparent oppositions between certain elements that constitute our humanity such as natural / artificial, calm / chaos, earthly / spiritual, man / deity are perceived, which is synthesized in the figure of the prophet as a means of articulation between these elements. . This character represents the inherent need and search of the human being for the incomprehensible and incomprehensible, that which escapes humanity itself; a search for transcendence as opposed to nature itself. The search for utopia through dystopia.

        Watching (Blade Runner)

        Ben Bogart / Canada

I think of subjectivity and reality as a mutual construction. Cognitive mechanisms impose structure on reality in the form of imaginary categories that inform prediction and recognition. At the same time, the complexity of understanding the constant challenges of reality. Cognition determines salient and most essential properties of reality, but those properties are context dependent. Is quintessence an objectively observable property of reality or a projection of the imagination? “Watching (Blade Runner)” is situated in a long body of collective work titled “Watching and Dreaming”. Started in 2014, this series of work is the result of statistically oriented machine learning and computer vision algorithms attempting to understand popular kinematic representations of Artificial Intelligence breaking down and rebuilding itself. Machines' understanding manifests itself in their ability to recognize, and eventually predict, the structure of the movies they watch. The images produced are the result of both the projection of the imaginary structure system and the structure of the films themselves.

        Two Storms

        Alejandro Borsani / USA

Two Storms was filmed on the outskirts of San Roque de Cumbaza in the Peruvian Amazon during July 2013. In the vicinity of the town, a municipal undertaking sought to improve the supply of drinking water for the local population. In this video, two sequence shots are juxtaposed: a worker resting on the bank of a stream and the calm of a storm about to break. While the worker walks, climbs a rock and seems to enjoy a moment of leisure, the clouds float over the jungle transforming the sunset into a lead gray dance. The work tries to explore the meeting of two materials: the lightness of the clouds and the heaviness of a steel colossus. The friction between the two suggests contemporary problems such as the manifestation of climate change and the geopolitics of the development and exploitation of the Amazon.

        zuhaitz

        Sarah Ouazzani Touhami / France

"Zuhaitz" is the Basque word for "tree." This video uses the pretext of a pagan rite, celebrated every year around August 15 in a small Basque town, to enter a fantasy, guided by fire, and subjectively and sensitively explore the impact of this rite on the environment. that surrounds it. . Like the tree that unites opposites, I try to reconcile the intimacy of a night around a fire with a nightly torchlit village celebration. I act by sliding and overlaying both the sound and visual material, while preserving its autonomy_ to foster transformations.

        munica

        Salvatore Insana / Italy

Municca is the result of a magical and mysterious experience, experienced in June 2016 in Santa Teresa di Gallura thanks to the precious support of the Teatri Peregrini Festival. Every day, for a week, we walked on foot, between the myrtle and the heat, between the silence and the breath of the sea, that wild and hidden stretch of coast that leads to the open sea. Municca faces the limits, losing the contours. Island within the island, Municca, Santa Teresa di Gallura. Corsica on the horizon. Wind and granite as travel companions. Enduring the latency phase with the burning sun, between the bleached tracks of the sea, eroded thought, in contact with the forces that do not want (anymore) to know the human being.

        The flight

        John Melo / Colombia

El vuelo is a video-animation project that stems from a research on pre-Hispanic art, in it, I extract visual patterns that are repetitive in various Amerindian cultures and reconfigure them in a series of pieces that characterize birds, which represent a static metaphor of the shamanic flights that they performed with the ingestion of hallucinogenic plants and mushrooms. I am interested in approaching from my point of view what could have been the possible visions and sensations that these ancestral wise men had, generating a bridge between past and present.
