Michael Dessen is a composer and trombonist who creates music for improvisers, often by exploring the artistic potentials of live electronics, telepresence, and digital networks. His electro-acoustic trio, who have released three albums on Clean Feed Records, combine intricately composed material with wide-open improvisation and live sampling/processing. Dessen also works with compositions "scorestreams," which are dynamically displayed on screens for improvisers to perform, and as an improvisator he collaborates with various bands as well as soloing on digibone, an animistic world of trombone and live electronics. Since 2007, Dessen has actively participated in numerous telematic concerts that feature performers in distant locations connected through high-definition network technologies.
