Artist Union. still life
Anna Frants - United States
“Artist Union. Still life” is a reflection on the law of large numbers. Is it applicable to the visual arts: to colors in painting, lines in graphics, shapes in sculpture, and image integrity in installations? The law of large numbers is a principle that describes carrying out the same experiment many times. According to this law, the joint action of a large number of random factors leads to a result that is almost independent of chance. For example, in the 16th century, by royal order, the length of the English foot was defined as the arithmetic mean of the foot length of the first 16 people to leave church on Sunday for Matins. Although the law of large numbers was not yet defined, it is the basis for the principle of arithmetic mean used to determine the length of a foot.
