Through a biennial design competition and constructed works, LAGI is showing how innovation through interdisciplinary collaboration, culture, and the expanding role of technology in art can help to shape the aesthetic impact of renewable energy on our constructed and natural environments.

The goal of LAGI is to design and construct a series of large-scale site-specific public art installations that uniquely combine art with utility scale clean energy generation. The artworks utilize the latest in renewable energy science and innovate the application of new technologies. The art itself continuously distributes clean kilowatts-hours of electricity into the city grid with each land art generator sculpture having the potential to provide power to hundreds or even thousands of homes. At the same time, the installations are conceptually-engaging and activating additions public spaces. They create platforms for educational outreach on the subjects of renewable energy, sustainable development, and ecological conservation.

Educational programming and community collaboration are fundamental to all LAGI projects, beginning with early concept generation and continuing on site after each project is installed. LAGI has also developed an array of unique educational materials, including the Field Guide to Renewable Energy Infrastructure, Art+Energy Camps, Flash Cards, information graphics, publications, and more.

LAGI is the recipient of multiple National Endowment for the Arts grants and has been awarded the The J.M.K. Innovation Prize, a program of the J.M. Kaplan Fund.
