Timée: a resonance of antiquity

One of the exhibitions that were part of the 16th International Image Festival - ISEA2017, was Timée; an installation full of lights and sound presented by the French artist Guillaume Marmin, which invited reflection on the mixture of ancient philosophical theories and current technological practices. Good morning Guillaume, welcome to ISEA2017. Can you tell us a little about yourself and your career as an artist? Hello, I am a French plastic artist. I am very happy to be in Manizales. Thanks to ISEA for inviting me this year. I come more from video, I made many experimental installations and videos and now my work is more oriented by light, and its relationship with sound and space, as I did with the Timée installation that we were able to see in Manizales. In relation to your work Timée, can you tell us about the creation process and why it is called Timée (apparently it comes from the book […]

Science and the landscape: creative unity in the work of Hicham Berrada

The French artist Hicham Berrada visited Manizales for the first time to present his artistic and scientific work within the framework of the 16th International Image Festival - ISEA2017. Elements such as time, nature or science are part of his artistic career and his interest in the future. Good morning Hicham and welcome to the Festival and ISEA. Good morning and thanks. Tell us about your career as an artist. I am a plastic artist. I work to a greater extent in installations, videos, performances and everything around the theme of landscape, because for me landscape is a rather ambiguous term that wants, above all, to say a man's point of view on nature, and I think that it is through the notion of landscape. It is by the fact that the painters painted the landscape or that the photographers photographed the landscape, that our philosophical conception of nature is based […]

“What I try to do in my projects is not sound or visual, it is audiovisual”: Alex Augier

The French artist Alex Augier presented _nybble_ within the framework of ISEA2017 – 16th International Image Festival. This soundscape is a commitment to audiovisual production, since its interest is to find that both light and sound complement each other. This is an interview in which Alex tells us a little about his creative career and his time at the Festival. Tell us about your journey as an artist. As an artist I have a first project, my previous project called oqpo_oooo. It is an audiovisual performance like _nybble_. I presented it for the first time at the Scopitone Festival in Nantes and it was produced by Stereolux. That's my entry into the world of numbers. Above all, I feel like a musician and I also like technology, programming, architecture, design, all of this. And, indeed, I try to reflect to make a coherent synthesis of all this and the […]

No Software and Other Essays on Philosophy of Technology

Friedrich Kittler is for many the founder of media studies and one of the most influential thinkers in the philosophy of technology and literary criticism. Schools of thought such as Media Archeology and Digital Humanities have expressed a debt to the thought of this author, who has gone unnoticed in Spanish-speaking academic circles. This volume offers what is probably the first translation of Kittler into Spanish, filling a significant gap in our humanities and media sciences. The reader will find in this book a selection of texts that show the intellectual development of a thinker, as well as the diversity of topics and ways of approaching the technological issues of the present in their historical dimension, revealing routes and horizons for research that surprise us by its validity and currency.

Biocreation and peace in the image of ISEA 2017 and the 16th International Image Festival

In the last four years, the search for peace in Colombia has gradually materialized. After a long war between brothers, a new panorama begins to be seen for Colombian citizens and the eyes of foreigners begin to see this territory and its people as something new and with great potential. This is the reason why it is necessary, now more than ever, to come together in search of forgiveness and reconciliation, feelings in which art plays a fundamental role, not only as a means of symbolic reparation and memory but also as a point reflection with a fixed look to the future. This year the image of ISEA2017, and the 16th International Image Festival reflect the spirit of the event: the construction of peace and bio-creation from art and technology. Colombia is a country with a […]

Nonotak, the French duo made up of Noemi Schipfer and Takami Nakamoto, was at the 16th International Image Festival – ISEA2017. Thanks to the Colombia-France Year, the group opened the event with its performance Late Speculation and presented the Zero Point Two installation. We asked them about their career as artists and their presence at the Festival. Who are they? Noemi: We are Nonotak, which comes from our names, Noemi and Takami. We are a duo of artists from Paris. Four years ago we started working together. Takami: Noemi had studied illustration and I had studied architecture, we wanted to show visuals in a space through installations and later we started doing performances. Before I had a group, so I had musical training. At first, we started with small installations dealing with the relationship between space, light and sound. On what is the joint work for the creation […]
